ジュロン日本庭園 星和園 Jurong Japanese Garden, Seiwa-en
シンガポールのジュロン工業団地内に、シンガポール政府の発案により造られた日本庭園。背景としては、日系企業誘致の目論見もあった。この庭園建設のための資金を集めるために、1969年シンガポール日本商工会議所が設立されたといわれる。こうして、当時では日本国外で最大規模の日本庭園の企画が完成し、1970－71年にかけて中根金作を中心として設計施工が実施された。庭園は大池を中心にした池泉回遊式庭園で、中島に朱塗りの太鼓橋が渡されている。池畔の州浜、大規模な枯山水庭園部分、滝と流れの庭園部分、芝生園地部分などを園路が結ぶ。造園には日本（愛媛・鳥取）から約500トンの庭石と10基の石灯籠を運んで使用し、大池には新潟から送られてきた５千匹の錦鯉が放された。これだけ、大規模に造られた日本庭園だが、作庭後30年以上を経て日本人不在の維持管理により、荒廃が進んでいる。
隣接して中国庭園「裕華園」が開設されており、両庭園を一体として有料公開している。維持管理状態が悪化し、修復整備のため2005年春現在日本庭園部分は閉園中。

A proposal by the Singapore government prompted the construction of this Japanese garden in the Jerong industrial area of Singapore. The original intention was to attract Japanese companies to Singapore; apparently the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Singapore was established in 1969 in order to get the budget together for the construction of this garden. At the time, it was the largest Japanese garden designed outside of Japan. Nakane Kinsaku and others carried out the design and construction of the garden from 1970 to 1971.
It is a stroll-style garden constructed on a large scale, with a sizable pond in the center. A red Taiko bridge crosses to a central island. There is also a pebble beach beside the pond, a large-scale dry garden, a waterfall with a stream and a grassy space. A walking path connects all of these elements. Approximately 500 tons of garden stones and 10 stone lanterns were imported for the garden from Ehime and Tottori, Japan; in addition, the pond was stocked with 5,000 Nishiki Koi from Niigata.
Thirty years have passed since the construction of the garden. Without proper maintenance by trained Japanese gardeners, it has become overgrown and ruined. A Chinese garden, “Yu-ka-En,” was built adjacent to the Japanese garden, and both gardens were opened to the public at the same time for an entrance fee. As the state of the Japanese garden grew worse, it was closed for restoration in the spring of 2005.
