アルベール・カーン邸日本庭園 Japanese Garden in Mr. Albert Kahn's house
オリジナルは1905～1910年。元々はアルベール・カーンの個人庭園。
茶庭は、単に眺めるためのものではなく、“調和”、“尊敬”、“純粋さ”、“静寂”という茶道の4つの精神を取り入れ、自分自身の心の中をみつめ、探求させるものである。茶室は、深い緑で囲まれており、常緑樹は客を迎える縁起の良いものとして使われている。石灯篭、蹲、苔は、控えめであるが庭のポイントとなっている。流れは、人生のはかなさを表し、石は静けさや永遠を表している。茶庭へ向かう露地の配石は斬新なデザインである。
1993年、日本庭園部分の西側約3分の2が高野ランドスケープにより改修された。
この改修は、資料館建設にあたり実施され、3年間にわたる日仏合同プロジェクトであった。基本方針は、①アルベール・カーンの人生を水で表現、②洗練、混沌、根源の美を表現、③いろいろな国の人々とつくりあげることであった。庭には、流れ、池、花の丘、鮮やかな木々、曲線を描く園路、つつじの丘とよばれる築山がある。南北の線は陰と陽、光と影を表し、東西の線は、太陽の道、生命サイクルを表している。花は一年を通じ計画的に配され、季節の変化、日照による変化がこの庭で楽しめる。特に、水面に映り、風にゆれる竹林は非常に美しい。しかしながら、当初の作品とは異なる印象の庭園となったため、この改修については疑問の声もあり、意見は二分している。

The original garden, created between 1905 and 1910, was the private garden of Albert Kahn. Its purpose was not only to create a space for viewing, but also one for talking and self-examination through the four ideological tenets of tea ceremony: harmony, respect, purity and tranquillity.
The tea room is surrounded by deep evergreen trees, offering visitors an auspicious welcome. Stone garden lanterns, a crouching basin arrangement, and moss all are moderate lively points in the garden. A stream represents the fragility of life, while the stones represent stillness and eternity. The arrangement of stones in the Roji (garden path) going to the tea garden is very original.
In 1993, two-thirds of the west side of the Japanese Garden was repaired by Takano Landscape. The renovation took place over a three-year period following the construction of the reference library. It was a joint project between the Japanese and French governments. The basic goals of the project were:
① To express the life of Albert Kahn though water;
② To express the beauty of refinement, chaos and source; and
③ To involve people from varying nationalities.
The renovation included a stream, a pond, a flower mound, vividly colored trees, walking paths going in curved lines, and a knoll of azaleas. The line from north to south represents Yin and Yang, shadow and light. The line from east to west represents sunrise to sunset, the cycle of life. The flowers were deliberately planted to bloom throughout the year, which allows people to enjoy the garden with the changing light of the seasons. This is especially the case in the bamboo forest, where the reflections on the water and the movement of the trees in the wind are quite beautiful. However, because the renovation made the garden quite different from its original appearance, opinions regarding the changes have been mixed.
