フィリピン戦没日本人慰霊園 Memorial Garden of the Japanese War Dead in the Philippines
第二次世界大戦において、フィリピンでは約50万人にのぼる日本軍関係者が戦死したといわれる。戦争後30年を機会に、日本政府がフィリピン政府の協力を得て、マニラ東南の景勝地ラグナ州カラリヤにこれら戦没者の慰霊碑を建立することとし、社団法人フィリッピン戦没日本人慰霊園建設委員会が設置された。現日本財団の補助金により、慰霊碑の周辺に12ヘクタールに及ぶ慰霊園が建設され、そこに日本庭園が造成され、日本・フィリピン両国の友好親善の広場となっている。毎年８月１５日にはこの地で日本大使館主催の慰霊祭が開催されている。

Nearly 500,000 Japanese soldiers are thought to have died in the Philippines during the Second World War. Thirty years after the war, the Japanese government decided to erect a memorial in honor of the fallen soldiers. A memorial committee was established for this purpose, and a memorial garden was constructed around a statue on loan from the present Japanese foundation. The memorial garden came to symbolize friendship and goodwill between Japan and the Philippines. On the 15th of August every year, a memorial service is held under the auspices of the Japanese embassy.
